Sur Mesure - Two Michelin stars
Date: May 25, 2013
Dinner: 8:30pm
Tasting menu 9 courses 195 euro
This restaurant is located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, not far from the Jardin de Tuleries. The decor was modern and monochrome. The bathroom was a fun surprise and quite the contrast in color from the dining room.
We started with a glass of rose champagne.
Structured & destructured sesame
Egg yolk/minty green peas/ tomato foccacia
Cubic veal's head/black truffle/fois gras
Not as scary as it sounded! Tasted delicious.
Longuet/crayfish and sweetbread
or Tube pizza/ stalk caper
The sweetbreads were over powered by the crayfish flavor, very fishy. The tube pizza was good, very subtle flavor.
Soy and oysters risotto/morels
This has an extremely interesting texture. The "risotto" was the soy, and had a very crunchy texture.
Roasted piece of Lobster/peppers/eggplant
or Tempura of John Dory/ slow cooking kohlrabi/ tomato water
Pork/gherkins - mustard/comte cheese jelly
or smoked beef/carrot cake/asparagus and fresh wasabi
For some reason I was having a hard time deciding if I would like the pork. It was fatty and delicious, so no worries. being a pickle lover I was excited for the gherkins but couldn't taste them.
Sweet Bento & Ylang-ylang
This was fun because it came in so many dishes.
Blood orange sponge cake/red beetroot sugar/gariguette strawberry and muscovado sugar
or confit apple/puff pastry a la creme fraiche
Wines
We shared a bottle of Alsatian Pinot Noir and had different glasses of white wine. I had the Blanc Fume de Pouilly and it was so delicious. We took these pictures to our local wine store and his comments were, "Nice!" "this will be tough to get" "$100 per bottle", etc!
